Things That People Love to Talk About Even Though Nobody Cares

This will come as a shock to no one but I find Facebook to be insufferable. I still have my FB account but I hardly ever use it anymore. I deleted the app from my phone and when I log on at work it’s mostly just to talk to people on messenger.

Facebook is filled with a  bunch of annoying, stupid people talking about shit that no one cares about. (It’s also a constant reminder that everyone and their mother is getting engaged except for me but that’s another post altogether.)

There are certain topics that people love to voice their opinions to whoever will listen. These are topics that no one actually cares about yet people will still ramble on about. Here are some topics that if you ever feel the need to tell someone about quickly shove a sock in your mouth and lock yourself in a closet for a couple of hours because nobody cares.

Dieting – So do you want to hear what I had for lunch today? Wanna hear how many calories I consumed? No! No! Literally no one wants to hear about the healthy, green shit you had for lunch. If you ate at some amazing new restaurant that specializes in unique tacos, by all means please tell me about it. I’d love to hear about these tacos doused in hot sauce and guacamole. But if you want to tell me about the oatmeal you had for breakfast and the salad with dressing on the side for lunch, I’ll take a pass. Eat your salad, be sad about it, and shut up.

Exercising – This tends to coincide with the dieting phenomenon. You start eating salads and going to the gym and suddenly you won’t shut the hell up. There are those people who genuinely believe that if you don’t let FB know you went to the gym then the workout doesn’t really count. All those calories you burned are for nothing because you forgot to check in. For shame!

Dreams – People LOVE talking about their dreams. They love telling a person every little detail about their dream and then asking what the dream could possibly mean. So in your dream you were a giraffe and you made out with the human version of Joe Biden. You want me to try to make sense of that? I dunno, maybe it means that you’re a freaking weirdo. But wanna know what I do know? I know that I don’t care about what you saw in your dreams while you were sleeping. We’re all narcissistic. The only time someone wants to hear about what happened in your dreams is if you dreamed about them. If that’s not the case, keep it to your dream diary.

Politics – #FeeltheBern #MakeAmericaGreatAgain #DoesHillaryEvenHaveACatchphrase #ShutUp #NobodyGivesAShitWhoYoureVotingFor
Politics is one of the main reasons I needed to delete my FB app and minimize the amount of time I spent on the shitty site. This political season in America has been especially nauseating and it seems to have brought out the worst in people. (People that I normally love and cherish.) I never realized before how many of my friends and family are political experts. It was quite the shock to me. News Flash: None of you are political experts and most of you actually know nothing about politics. So please kindly keep your political views to yourself because NOBODY CARES!

*Please note that none of this applies to me when it comes to blogging. I recently booked a trip to Miami so I’ll have plenty of tales about my attempts at dieting and exercising. I may bring Throwback Thursday back just so I can tell you about the dream I had where 50 Cent tried to kill me. (This is a very real dream that still haunts me to this day.) And if Donald Trump somehow becomes president this November, there will be plenty of bitching from me.

  1. Very true. I also see it on Instagram, all of the “look what I had for lunch/dinner/breakfast” today (and it doesn’t even look good). I admit that I do roll my eyes at the motivational “#liveyourdreams” photos, too. Ah well, people are people…let them do whatever they want, since anything goes on social media *shrugs.

    1. This reminds me of my cousin. Love her, she cooks food that I’m pretty sure actually *would* look good… but I’d say a good 50% of her photos aren’t focused. Why would you post that?!

      1. I actually know someone who has a business selling cooking products and will post photos of the food she’s making in order to promote the products. However, the photos are horrible and the food looks so bad. It makes me want to NOT buy her products. I don’t get it.

  2. hahaha YES, preach! I hate when people get super-into screaming about politics; it’s so rare they ever even change anyone else’s mind! I’ve unfollowed a lot of people on Facebook this year.

Also, I kind of died laughing at the dream thing. My best friend and I always tell each other if we had a really weird one, and end the sentence with, “Well, this doesn’t make any sense now that I’m saying it out loud.” We really need to just stop.

    1. The thing about the politics that bothers me the most is that it’s usually people just reposting photos with quotes that are usually incorrect. I see people posting things that are lies all the time and it irritates me so much. There’s also just a lot of ignorance being spread this political season.

My best friend and I always tell each other our dreams as well. Deep down I know she probably doesn’t care about my dreams and I don’t really care about hers, but we still tell each other anyway.

      1. Right?! That’s what I hate about it too! And I think best friends are just the people you tell everything to, and in return, hear everything there is to know about them as well. It’s actually something I really like about being a girl!

  3. I love telling people about my dreams but not stuff at night, but my dreams of becoming a superstar comedian that gets so big he only has to do a gig like three times a year.

  4. My response to this poignantly written post: YES! To add one more thing, breastfeeding. I have so many friends now who have one or more little ones (still trying to wrap my head around THAT one), but one thing they all have in common, for the most part, is the constant pilgrimage to engrain in everyone and their mother’s mind how “important and vital and crucial” it is to breastfeed. They somehow feel the need to share with the world the details of their pumping history. Now don’t get me wrong–I have nothing whatsoever against it–you do you, girl. But that doesn’t mean I’m a fan of this on Facebook. Nope. Not even a little bit. I’m THIS close to giving FB the ‘ol heave hoe! And if it wasn’t for my job which revolves around this very thing, I think I would. Good gravy.

    1. My biggest issue with breastfeeding moms are the ones who think less of mothers who don’t breastfeed. Breastfeeding is a wonderful thing but it’s not going to work for everyone. You’re not a superior mom because you breastfeed.

  5. The diet and exercise stuff is super annoying, especially because a number of my friends have started these diet-related Ponzi schemes. First of all, I’m sad when anyone I know gets involved in a Ponzi scheme. Then I’m annoyed when they think I have time to waste on it too. THEN I’m double annoyed because tbh I always think, “Yeah, tell me about your weight loss expertise when you’ve actually kept the weight off five years from now and without using drugs!” That annoys me because it makes me feel like I’m being mean… but really I’m not the one trying to sell people nasty magical tea and stuff via FB, so why should I be the one feeling bad?!

    1. OMG, I know what you mean. I know this girl (she’s a family friend) who is always trying to sell some crap on Instagram. Right now it’s this stupid energy drink and I just cannot deal.

  6. I got a Facebook account so I could stalk certain people who might not bother to keep in touch. I skim it very lightly once or twice a week. I’m with you; most posts on FB are a waste of my time. J.

    1. I found myself doing way too much FB stalking. That’s another reason why I chose to delete the app from my phone. I found myself doing way too much stalking.

  7. But I need Facebook as a platform for my politics, because my views are the only correct ones!!!!!

I don’t really have the option of opting out of social media, though. My career sort of depends on it.

    1. I think there are some good qualities to social media. It can do a lot of good and I don’t see myself every fully getting rid of it. It’s helped me with a few things. But God can it be annoying sometimes.

      1. Yea it’s depressing sometimes when I see what some of the people I know and care about post on FB. That’s why I need to take a small step back. I was gonna start to hate people.

  8. Omg yessss dreams. At this point you’d think since no one likes hearing about other people’s dreams, they’d stop talking about theirs, but no. Oh, by the way, did I tell you about this dream I had where…. 😉

    1. It is so weird. I know no one wants to hear my dreams. I never want hear other people’s dreams but I still find myself telling my sisters and my best friend about my dreams. I can’t help it.

  9. Lmao you are too much. This not applying to you, was hilarious! I laughed my butt off at the gym comment. I swear when I work out, I have to let someone know 😅😅

    1. There is something about being healthy that just makes us have to share it with the world. I think it’s an accountability thing. If we tell people about going to the gym/eating healthy, then we have to continue going? Maybe that’s what it is.
