I already let my feelings about New Year’s resolutions known last year. You’re not going to automatically change who you are as a person because we are entering a new year. People who talk nonsense about “New Year, New Me” are dumb. I know that may sound harsh but it’s true.
However, I am all for setting goals for yourself. Sort of like a New Year’s bucket list. Every year there are new things that I want to try/accomplish. Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes not so much. So this year I am going to hold myself accountable by putting it in writing. This means that you get to share this journey with me. (Aren’t you so lucky?)
This year I’ve decided to set several goals for myself. Some are things that I’ve started improving on this year and some are things that I’ve been thinking about for awhile. I am being realistic with these goals. That’s the problem with goals and resolutions. Many times people strive too high too fast. You’re not going to go from taking the elevator everywhere to running a mile. It just doesn’t work like that. I do not want to set myself up for failure. So you may scoff at some of these goals but they are big changes for me. (And if I happen to exceed any them then even better!)
- Hike at least 10 new trails.
- Go meatless at least 3 times a week.
- Walk 10,000 steps or more at least 4 times a week.
- Visit two places I’ve never been before.
- Successfully make a loaf of bread.
- Write at least 12 new blog posts.
- Try out 2 new recipes a month.
- Volunteer my time.
- Find a way to better manage my stress/anxiety.
- Unplug from my cellphone more often.
Now that this is written down and about to be broadcast to the world (AKA all five of you reading), I have to try my hardest to follow through. At the halfway mark, I’m going to follow up on the post and check on my progress. Wish me luck!
Happy New Year!
*Question: What are some goals you have for 2018?
Going meatless three times a week should be relatively painless what with all the meat-like meatless products in the produce and frozen sections of grocery stores. It’s how we finally went full-on vegetarian. Good luck.
Yea I went with three times a week right now cause I didn’t want to aim too high and fail. But I like a lot of meatless options so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Good luck! I will be deciding on my goals tomorrow, because apparently I’m still disorganised in 2018, but I think I’ll also go for creating good habits rather than anything too over-the-top!
Have a wonderful New Year!
Hope you had a happy and healthy new year! I should add checking WordPress more often to my list as well!
Oh my gosh, I feel like such a goof, haha, I just came to your blog and found this NYE post!!
I LOVE all your goals!!! They’re super-realistic and will be a nice challenge, but not so crazy they’re going to be impossible to check off your list. I hope you end up doing more than 12 blog posts this year, though. 🙂
The cellphone thing is a GREAT resolution too; I might have to copy you on that. Even just not checking it for an hour in the middle of the day would be really great I think. Keep us posted on how all of them are going! ❤
Thanks so much! I am hoping to write more than 12 posts this year; just kept it low cause I know how I get sometimes. The phone thing has been great so far. The bf and I implemented no tech Tuesdays at the apartment. Instead of TV or browsing through our phones, we read or play a game. It’s nice to disconnect every once in awhile.
Ahhh I LOVE that idea!! What kind of games do you like? Robert and I play a lot of Mario kart on the Nintendo Switch, lol!
Haha Jonathan is obsessed with his Switch. I’ve played Mario Kart a few times with him but I get so frustrated cause I’m so bad at it lol. We like Pandemic a lot and have recently gotten into Scrabble. I forgot how much I used to like that game. Do you and Robert play any board games?
Oh my gosh, that’s hilarious! It definitely takes time getting used to. Y’all should play the battle ones! Robert and I love Bob-Bomb blast (lol) and the Balloon Battle! They’re so fun.
We LOVE board games! Our favorites are Settlers of Catan and some of the little card games like Coup and Bang! I love Pandemic too, but we’re super-competitive and like to only have one winner, haha. I love Scrabble though; maybe I’ll surprise him with that one day!!
I have never heard of Coup and Bang. I’ll have to check them out.
I have some similar goals to you! Good luck with them. I know going meatless is easier than it first seems
Thank you and good luck to you as well in your goals!
I love your goal to go meatless! I’m a pescatarian (vegetarian that eats fish) and I used to try to do one vegan day a week so I think I might do that again 🙂
I have been thinking about going meatless for awhile. When I go out to eat, I know it will be difficult. But I am going to try to do it more and more when cooking at home. I love pasta and beans and veggies so it should be easy. And not having to buy meat every week will save me money.
